    Description

New reproduction woman's Basque Body, size small. 34" bust. This is a new item and has never been worn. The jacket is loose fitting with soft pleats held with self fabric tabs. The bottom edge flares out nicely across a hoop skirt.  For the lady who is in need of a "mother-to be" jacket it is a simple task to remove the back tab and pleats for an even more open fit. It measures 27" from the neck edge to the bottom. The waist is approximately 37" around and the bust is approximately 44" which allows the body to fit over other clothing.
The jacket-like Basque body is made of fine, light-weight  teal , it is fully lined with black broadcloth. The body has wide pagoda sleeves which allow the pretty sleeves of your dress or jacket to show.  It buttons in the front with two intricately shaped silver colored metal buttons. The same buttons are used on the back and side tabs, which give figure flattering  form to the Basque. The body is designed to be worn over a dress or blouse and the front opening allows the pretty  bodice of a dress or blouse to show as if in a frame. The Basque is trimmed with very narrow black passementary braid which goes all the way around the outer edge of the body and on the pagoda sleeve.
This handsome Basque body is perfect for cooler fall and winter reenactments and even for colder summer nights. It is warm and comfortable and makes a nice finish for any outfit.
From the pattern, Timeless stitches TSB-109:  "The definition of a Basque Bodice is a bodice that extends below the waist, over the skirt.  Empress Eugenie of France made this Basque style popular.  In 1858 she ordered 25 of these garments in many fabric choices.  The bodice is not tight fitting, like most of the bodices worn; it utilizes pleats or gathers and fabric belts to give it shape at the waistline.  This makes this garment more comfortable to wear than any of the tight-fitting bodices. The purpose of a Basque bodice would depend on the fabric chosen.  Basques made of light, airy, solid and print cottons could be worn as morning and at-home attire, as well as fancy day dresses.  Basques made of heavier cottons, silks, linens, wools and brocades would be used for day dresses, visiting garments, traveling attire, and for riding habits."
