    Description

This is an Antique Manganese Purple Mold Blown Glass Cruet or Vase.
We have a variety of antique glass in our ebay store including bottles and other items, as well as a wide variety of porcelain and pottery pieces.
We are not experts in antique glass but based on the information I found online, this piece is thought to be hand blown into a four part mold, since there is but a rough pontil mark on the bottom, and four mold lines, two running along the centerlines of the handles and the other two at 90 degrees around the circumference, respectively.
The purple color is thought to be the result of the interaction of sunlight with manganese.  I found the following information relating to that online:
"WHY DOES OLD GLASS TURN PURPLE? During the mid and late 1800s, American glass companies added manganese to the glass to make it clear. Manganese turns purple when it is exposed to sunlight. About 1915 the use of manganese in glass was discontinued."
If this attribution of the type of glass is correct, it would seem to date the piece to either the Victorian or Edwardian eras.  We purchased this piece in the US and we do not know if it is American made, British made, or from elsewhere.
With respect to the form of the piece, I am not certain whether it is a cruet that, as found, is missing its stopper, or if it was originally made as a small base.
    Condition
As found, there are two adjacent, quite small chips in the turnings on one of the handles.  Please note that these are quite small and mainly seen on very close inspection.  The photo where the photo of the handle is seen with the two chips are seen indicated in blue are extreme closeups many times larger that the actual piece.  You can feel the chips if you run your finger over that area, but they are not overly sharp.
The piece is offered as found / as seen / as described with respect to these chips.
